Vacancies for Trustees – Chair

Seeking a new Chairperson for OPAL

After five successful years in the role, our current Chairperson is standing down and we are seeking someone with energy and ideas to step into this role.

As a volunteer-led charity, currently with a Board of 7, we are willing to expand in order to achieve the degree of diversity and skills we believe we need. Our current Board recently embarked on a review of the structure, governance and operation of our organisation and we believe that it is not necessary for  our new Chair to be someone who already has previous involvement in our organisation. Knowledge and experience of the issues that can arise in rural communities and the issues that older people and carers can face would of course be advantageous, as would some governance interest or experience.

OPAL has been in operation for nine years and in that time has expanded the range of services we offer and gained a strong reputation as a provider and as an organisation that provides opportunities for volunteers. In 2020 we were awarded a Queen’s Award for Volunteering in recognition of the work our volunteers do. We are looking for a new Chair to lead us into the future.

We currently have a small staff team with no manager employed. Management of the staff is undertaken by a few of the trustees. Trustees are in the main quite involved in operational activity though this depends on their circumstances and other commitments.
