OPAL offers accessible, enjoyable and enabling activities for older people in rural West Cheshire, in order to reduce isolation and loneliness. We have been operating for 13 years and, during that time, have expanded our range of services and gained a reputation as a trusted provider. In 2020 OPAL received a Queen’s Award for Volunteering in recognition of the work our amazing volunteers undertake.

OPAL Branching Out Organiser
Location: Across rural West Cheshire (e.g. Farndon and Ashton Hayes)
Salary: £15.10 per hour
Hours: 8 per week – Wednesday & Friday
Part Time staff vacancy
Our Branching Out Service supports older adults who have become socially isolated, may have lost confidence in social situations, or find it daunting walking into a group for the first time on their own.
OPAL provides a supported, welcoming space where they can meet others and over time learn about other groups and clubs in the area that they may consider joining. Our ‘buddy’ volunteers not only support the Branching Out sessions but will also accompany a member to a group/club they are interested in so that they are not on their own.
The aim is that over time members will join other groups and clubs in order to branch back out into their local community.
Ideally, you will have experience of working with older people, have experience or the confidence to deliver a range of stimulating activities to older people. You should be well organised, a good communicator, able to engage with a wide range of people in a supportive and empathetic way, be computer literate and have use of a vehicle.
The post is 8 hours per week, with some flexibility during core hours, subject to meeting the operational needs and priorities of the service. Our Branching Out groups in Farndon and Ashton both meet once a fortnight and are delivered at community venues. For the week the service isn’t running you will be home based.
